Teaching Experience

Since qualifying as a teacher in 1992 I have taught in Key Stages 1 and 2, both in single year and mixed year group classes. I have worked in a number of different schools, junior and primary, rural and suburban. While working in the classroom and I have been a subject leader for maths, music and ICT.

Senior Management

I have been part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) in three schools, as a +2, Deputy Head and Headteacher. During that time I have tackled most of the issues that occur in the management of school, whether that is budgeting, pupil discipline, recruitment, standards or one of the many other areas.

Adviser

Since April 2005 I have been an associate adviser for Essex Advisory and Inspection Service, working with the Target Tracker team. In this role I manage the Pocket PC and Special Schools Target Tracker projects, write training materials and manuals, record video tutorials and deliver training to various audiences including:

• Teachers
• Teaching Assistants
• Office staff
• Senior Manager
• LEA advisers
• Helpline staff

Educational Projects

During my time I have worked on a number of projects, these include:

• Development of an education programme for Bradwell Power Station
• Work with a school consortium on developing assessment materials for investigative maths
• Leading ICT Teacher (LICTT) for Essex, providing NOF (New Opportunities Fund) training which focused on the use of ICT across the curriculum
• Development of FLIPPI, a paper and software based assessment tool for ICT
• Presentation of FLIPPI to QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) as part of their research into ICT assessment

Other Employment

As well as education I also worked for ICI Fibres in Gloucester. I developed and supported real-time control systems for nylon production and warehousing.
